Eurasian Collared-Dove
Where to spot
Native to Asia, it has successfully colonized Europe, North Africa, and North America. Found in a wide variety of habitats, including urban areas, suburbs, parks, gardens, and agricultural landscapes.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive three-note coo 'doo-HOO-hooo', which is often repeated. Look for its uniform pale grey-buff plumage, darker primary feathers, and the narrow black half-collar on the back of its neck. It's often seen perched on wires, roofs, or foraging on the ground.
When to spot
Common and resident year-round in most parts of its range. Breeding occurs over an extended period, often from early spring to late autumn, making it observable for much of the year.
