Privacy policy
1. When does this policy apply?
This policy applies to all users of the Fladder app and related services.
Are you under 16 years old? Then you need permission from a parent or guardian to use Fladder.
2. What data do we collect?
We collect the following types of data:
- Account details: your name and email address.
- Location data: only if you choose to enable it. For example, to check in a bird observation or to display maps correctly.
- User content: photos and observations you upload yourself. You can keep these private or share them publicly with other users.
- Technical data: such as your device, operating system, and app usage (via Firebase Analytics).
- Payment data: subscriptions are handled through the App Store or Google Play. We do not have access to your payment details.
3. Why do we process your data?
We use your data for the following purposes:
- To make the app work properly.
- To create and manage your account.
- To send push notifications or updates (for example via Firebase).
- To create statistics and improve the app.
- To comply with legal obligations (such as bookkeeping).
4. On what legal basis do we process data?
We only process your data when there is a valid legal basis:
- Consent: for example, when you allow us to use your location.
- Performance of a contract: so you can use the app.
- Legal obligation: for example, for our administration.
- Legitimate interest: such as keeping the app secure and improving it.
5. Sharing of data
We don’t share your data unless it is necessary. In some cases, we work with third parties to make the app work:
- Hosting: our servers run on Hetzner in Germany (EU).
- Analytics & push notifications: via Firebase (Google).
- Maps: via Mapbox.
- Subscriptions: via Apple App Store and Google Play.
We sign data processing agreements with these parties where required. Your data will never be stored outside the EU without proper protection.
6. Retention periods
- We store your data as long as you have an account.
- If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days, unless we are legally required to keep it longer (for example 7 years for financial records).
- Content you shared publicly may remain visible to other users until you remove it yourself.
7. Your rights
Under the law, you have the following rights:
- The right to access your data.
- The right to correct or delete your data.
- The right to restrict processing.
- The right to object.
- The right to data portability.
- The right to withdraw your consent.

8. Security
We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against loss or unauthorized use. This includes secure connections, access restrictions, and encryption where necessary.

If we can’t resolve it together, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority at www.autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you via the app or our website. By continuing to use Fladder after the changes, you agree to the updated version.
