Spotted
The Caribbean Dove is a medium-sized dove endemic to Jamaica and specific Caribbean islands. It is recognized by its relatively pale plumage and a preference for coastal and dry woodland habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and San Andrés and Providencia. Found in dry scrub, coastal woodlands, gardens, and cultivated areas.
How to spot
Look for its pale greyish-white head and underparts contrasting with a brownish back. Its long, white-tipped tail is a key identification feature, especially when it flies. Listen for its low, soft, often drawn-out hooting call, 'coo-oo-oo'.
When to spot
Year-round. Active throughout the day, often seen in more open or edge habitats.
