The Grey-bellied Fruit Dove is a relatively large and distinctive species, characterized by its slate-grey belly and head, contrasting with its green upperparts. It is endemic to the Bismarck Archipelago.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Bismarck Archipelago (Papua New Guinea), inhabiting lowland and hill forests.
How to spot
Look for its characteristic grey belly and head as it foragers in the mid to upper canopy of fruiting trees. Its large size for a fruit dove can also aid in identification.
When to spot
Active during the day, with peak foraging activity in the early morning and late afternoon.

Unlike many other Ptilinopus species known for their vibrant multi-colored bellies, the Grey-bellied Fruit Dove's more subdued grey underside makes it unique within the genus.
