The Red-eared Parrot is a medium-sized parrot known for its dull green plumage and a distinctive red patch on its ear coverts. It inhabits the humid forests of Central America and northwestern South America.
Where to spot
Humid lowland and foothill forests, including forest edges and clearings, from southern Mexico to northwestern Colombia and northern Venezuela.
How to spot
Look for the red ear patch, which can be hard to spot in poor light. Listen for their characteristic high-pitched, ringing calls. They often fly quickly, making identification challenging.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, particularly during morning and late afternoon feeding sessions. It is a resident species.
