The Cactus Parakeet is a small to medium-sized green parakeet primarily distinguished by its habitat preference for arid, cactus-filled regions. It has a dull, brownish cap.
Where to spot
Dry caatinga scrubland and arid thorn forests, particularly areas dominated by cacti, in northeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Scan for them in dry, thorny vegetation, especially near large cacti. Listen for their sharp, repeated calls. They often move in small, noisy flocks.

Year-round. Most active during the cooler parts of the day: early morning and late afternoon.
