Humid montane cloud forests of Costa Rica and Panama.
How to spot
Look for small, fast-flying green birds in the mid to upper canopy. Listen for their high-pitched, twittering calls. Patience is needed to spot their facial markings.
When to spot
Year-round, active during daylight hours.
This parrotlet is particularly fond of mistletoe berries, which form a significant part of its diet, demonstrating a specialized foraging behavior.
