Spotted
The Hyacinth Macaw is the largest flying parrot species, renowned for its striking cobalt blue plumage and bright yellow rings around its eyes and at the base of its lower mandible.
Where to spot
Semi-open areas with palm groves, savannas, and forest edges, particularly in the Pantanal wetlands of Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay.
How to spot
Look for them flying overhead with powerful, direct flight. Listen for their loud, guttural squawks. Focus on areas with mature palm trees where they feed.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon when foraging and flying between roosting and feeding sites.
