Where to spot
Widespread across Europe, North Africa, and much of Asia, preferring open woodlands, orchards, gardens, farmlands, and parks with seed-bearing plants.
How to spot
Look for them feeding on thistles, teasels, or sunflowers in gardens and fields. Their undulating flight pattern and characteristic 'tsee-tsee-tsit' calls are also good clues for identification.

Year-round in many areas; often seen in flocks outside the breeding season, which can make them easier to spot.
