White-tailed Eagle
Where to spot
Coastal areas, large lakes, rivers, and estuaries with old-growth forests for nesting across northern Eurasia, including Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and Russia.
How to spot
Look for its sheer size, broad rectangular wings, short wedge-shaped white tail (in adults), and large, powerful yellow bill. They often soar effortlessly or sit prominently on perches near water.
When to spot
Year-round in resident populations. Best observed during the breeding season (spring/summer) around nesting sites, or during winter when congregating at food sources like open water.

Sometimes called 'flying barn doors' due to their massive size and broad wings in flight, White-tailed Eagles are also known for kleptoparasitism, often stealing prey from other birds.
