Spotted
The Striated Antthrush is a ground-dwelling bird named for the prominent striations on its underparts. It is a secretive inhabitant of humid lowland forests, typically foraging in the leaf litter.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests, primarily within the Amazon basin in South America, including Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for its deep, hooting vocalizations, which are the easiest way to detect it. Patiently watch the forest floor and dense undergrowth, as it walks and hops, often flicking leaves to find prey.
When to spot
Active year-round, with calls most frequent during the early morning and late afternoon.
