Where to spot
Endemic to the Horn of Africa, specifically Somalia, eastern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya, inhabiting arid and semi-arid scrubland and stony desert plains.
How to spot
Search in open, dry scrubland and stony areas. It often forages on the ground or perches on low shrubs. Its pale plumage can make it blend in; patience and good optics are helpful.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the cooler parts of the day. Best observed after good rains when insect prey is more abundant.
This species is a specialist of the dry, acacia-dominated landscapes of Somalia and surrounding areas, expertly blending into its desert habitat.
