The Abyssinian Slaty Flycatcher (*Melaenornis chocolatinus*) is a slender African flycatcher with a distinctive slaty-brown, almost chocolate-brown, plumage and a paler belly. It has a relatively long tail.
Where to spot
Inhabits montane forests, woodlands, and dense scrub in the highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea.
How to spot
Look for its slaty-brown plumage. It often perches upright on exposed branches within its habitat, darting out to snatch flying insects. Listen for its thin, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round in its montane habitat. It is generally active throughout the day, foraging for insects by sallying from perches.
