Where to spot
Montane rainforests of East and Central Africa, particularly around the Albertine Rift Valley.
How to spot
Look for it in thick undergrowth, especially where there's dense leaf litter. Patience and listening for its song are key.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed in the early morning when it is most vocal.
This species is part of a complex group of akalats, with subtle differences in plumage and song distinguishing them across their fragmented forest habitats.
