The Grey-fronted Quail-Dove is an endangered and elusive ground-dove, endemic to Cuba. It is distinguished by its characteristic grey forehead and crown, contrasting with warmer body tones.
Where to spot
Endemic to humid montane forests and dense karstic woodlands in Cuba, particularly in the eastern and central regions.
How to spot
Requires considerable patience and luck. Look for it foraging silently on the forest floor in dense cover. Listen for its low, mournful, repetitive 'hoo-hoo-hoo' call, which can sometimes reveal its presence before a visual sighting.
When to spot
Year-round. Best observed during the cooler parts of the day, typically early morning and late afternoon when it is most active.
