The African Palm Swift is a common and highly adaptable swift found across sub-Saharan Africa. Like its Asian counterpart, it exhibits a strong association with palm trees for nesting and roosting.
Where to spot
Widespread across sub-Saharan Africa, extending into parts of the Arabian Peninsula.
How to spot
Scan for them flying swiftly and erratically around palm groves, urban areas, and agricultural landscapes. Their slender shape and continuous flight are typical swift characteristics.
When to spot
Year-round resident throughout its vast range, active from early morning until late evening.
