The Yellow-vented Green Pigeon is a distinctive species recognized by its predominantly green body and a bright yellow vent area. It inhabits highland forests of Southeast Asia.
Where to spot
Found in mountainous regions of Southeast Asia, including parts of Indochina (e.g., Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia) and Peninsular Malaysia, preferring montane evergreen forests.
How to spot
Look for it in the mid-to-upper canopy of montane forests. Its yellow vent can be a key identification feature when seen well. Listen for its distinctive soft, melancholic coos or whistles.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its highland habitat. Most active during morning and late afternoon feeding bouts when foraging for berries and small fruits.
Unlike many Green Pigeons that prefer lowlands, this species is typically found at higher altitudes, sometimes above 1,000 meters, preferring cooler montane evergreen forests.
