Where to spot
Found in the Himalayas and mountains of Southeast Asia, from Afghanistan eastward through Nepal, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and into parts of China and Thailand.
How to spot
Look in temperate broadleaf forests and mixed woodlands, often at higher elevations. Listen for their deep calls and observe their powerful, direct flight. Note the speckled head and breast for identification.
