Where to spot
Historically found in fragmented populations in southeastern Brazil and eastern Paraguay. Highly restricted to isolated patches of Atlantic Forest, primarily montane humid forest.
How to spot
Requires dedicated efforts to protected forest remnants. Look for its distinctive plumage patterns if seen, but it is often identified by its unique, low vocalizations. Due to its rarity, observation should be done with minimal disturbance.
When to spot
Year-round resident in its extremely limited range. Observation opportunities are rare due to its rarity and elusive nature.
This species is one of the most threatened doves in the Americas, facing severe habitat loss and fragmentation across its historical range, making every sighting significant.
