Where to spot
Found across the Himalayas and mountains of China, inhabiting alpine scrub, rocky slopes, and high-altitude grasslands, typically above the tree line.
How to spot
Search rocky, open, and sparsely vegetated areas in high mountains. Look for it perching on prominent rocks, constantly flicking its tail. Its clear, whistling song can often reveal its presence before a visual sighting.
When to spot
Breeds in summer (May-August) at high elevations. Descends to lower altitudes or more sheltered valleys during the harsh winter months.
This species frequently perches on large boulders and rocky outcrops in its mountainous habitat, using them as vantage points for foraging and territorial display.
