The Turkestan Bush Chat is a large and relatively plump bush chat, with males sporting a sandy-brown back and bright white underparts, often with a subtle peach wash on the flanks. Females are duller.
Where to spot
Found in Central Asia, breeding in deserts and semi-deserts of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Winters in parts of the Middle East, Pakistan, and India.
How to spot
Look in open desert and semi-desert habitats, particularly near scattered bushes and dry wadis. It often perches on low shrubs or the ground. Its relatively large size and pale plumage are good indicators.
When to spot
Breeding season is spring/summer in its desert range. Winters from autumn to spring in its southern wintering grounds. Best observed during migration or in specific habitats.
