A very large and powerful swift, instantly recognizable by its prominent white throat and undertail coverts. It is considered one of the fastest birds in horizontal flight.
Where to spot
Forested areas, mountains, and open skies across East Asia and Siberia, migrating to Southeast Asia and Australia for the non-breeding season.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive large size, powerful, direct flight, and broad wings. Identify it by the prominent white throat patch and contrasting white undertail coverts, especially against a bright sky.
When to spot
Breeding season (summer in Northern Hemisphere) and during migration periods. Most active during daylight hours.
