Spotted
The Grey Swiftlet is a small, pale swiftlet found in the Philippines. It is a highly aerial bird, characterized by its lighter plumage compared to many other swiftlet species, and its continuous, graceful flight.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Philippines, found across most major islands. It inhabits a variety of habitats from coastal areas to montane forests, often seen flying over open country and towns.
How to spot
Look for small, pale-bellied swiftlets flying rapidly. Their generally paler appearance can distinguish them from other darker swiftlets in the Philippines. They often fly in loose flocks and can be seen foraging at various altitudes.
When to spot
Active all day, commonly seen from early morning to late evening. Present year-round in its tropical habitat.
Unlike some of its relatives, the Grey Swiftlet is thought to be a non-echolocating species, relying on visual cues for navigation even in low light conditions.
