Finsch's Oriole is a distinctive and rare bird endemic to the island of Timor in Indonesia. Males are characterized by their dark plumage with yellow markings.
Where to spot
Endemic to Timor Island, Indonesia, inhabiting montane forests, often at higher elevations.
How to spot
Males have a dark head and upperparts, with yellow patches on the wings and undertail. Females are duller. Listen for its clear, melodious, fluty calls, characteristic of orioles.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during early mornings and late afternoons when foraging and vocalizing.
This species is named after Otto Finsch, a German ethnographer, naturalist, and ornithologist, who collected the type specimen.
