Spotted
The White-lored Oriole is a distinctive and rare bird endemic to the Sulu Archipelago in the southern Philippines. It is characterized by a prominent white patch on its face.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Sulu Archipelago, particularly Jolo and Tawi-Tawi islands, in the southern Philippines. Inhabits lowland forests and disturbed areas with trees.
How to spot
Look for its overall yellow and black plumage with a prominent white loral patch (between the eye and bill). Listen for its clear, melodious, fluty calls, characteristic of orioles.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during early mornings and late afternoons, when foraging and vocalizing.
Its restricted distribution to the Sulu Archipelago makes it a vulnerable and unique species, highly dependent on the health of the remaining forest fragments.
