A migratory robin highly prized by birdwatchers for the male's brilliant blue upperparts. It is a shy bird of dense forests.
Where to spot
Breeds in dense taiga and mixed forests across Siberia and Northeast Asia; winters in forests and dense vegetation in Southeast Asia.
How to spot
Listen for the male's high-pitched, whistled song. It often forages on or near the ground, so watch for movement in the leaf litter.
When to spot
Breeding season (summer) in northern latitudes; during migration (spring/autumn) across East Asia, and winter (autumn to spring) in tropical Asia.
