The Buff-streaked Bush Chat is a distinctive species of open grasslands and fynbos, named for the subtle buff streaking on its plumage. It is a terrestrial bird, often seen foraging on the ground.
Where to spot
Endemic to Southern Africa, found primarily in grassland, fynbos, and heathland habitats, often on slopes and open plains.
How to spot
Look for it on open grassy plains and slopes. It often perches on the tops of grass stems or low shrubs. Watch for the male's distinctive display flight and listen for its territorial song.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active and vocal during the breeding season (spring/summer), when males perform their aerial displays.
