A widespread and common ground-dove, the Ruddy Ground-Dove is known for the striking reddish-brown plumage of the male and more subdued brown of the female. They are often seen foraging on the ground in pairs or small flocks.

Extensively distributed from Mexico through Central America and most of South America. Prefers open to semi-open habitats including agricultural lands, pastures, urban parks, and clearings.
