Spotted
Ross's Goose is the smallest of the 'white geese', resembling a miniature Snow Goose but lacking the prominent 'grinning patch' at the bill base. It has a short, pink bill.
Where to spot
Exclusively found in North America. Breeds in Arctic Canada and winters in the southern United States and Mexico. Look for them in large flocks in agricultural fields and wetlands.
How to spot
Distinguish from Snow Goose by its significantly smaller size, rounder head, and short, stubby pink bill without a black 'grinning patch'. They often flock with Snow Geese, making direct comparison easy.
When to spot
Best observed during autumn and spring migration periods (October-November and March-April) and throughout winter in their southern non-breeding grounds.

Ross's Geese and Snow Geese often interbreed, leading to hybrid individuals, but pure Ross's Geese are identified by their smaller size and distinct bill features.
