The Rapa Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus huttoni) is a highly endangered fruit-dove endemic to the small and remote Rapa Island in the Austral Islands of French Polynesia. It is distinguished by its unique vocalizations.

Confined to the limited remaining native forests and valleys of Rapa Island, French Polynesia.
How to spot
Requires extensive and dedicated searching within its very limited habitat. Listening for its specific, unique calls is often the most effective way to detect its presence.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Observation might be very challenging due to its extreme rarity and shy nature.
With an extremely small and localized population confined to a single island, the Rapa Fruit-dove is considered one of the most vulnerable fruit-doves globally, facing severe conservation challenges.
