The Southern Crowned Pigeon is one of the four magnificent crowned pigeon species from New Guinea, distinguished by its blue-grey body, rich maroon chest, and an elaborate blue crest tipped with white.

Found in the lowland rainforests, sago palm swamps, and flooded forests of southeastern New Guinea. It prefers undisturbed primary forest with a dense understory.
