Spotted
Parker's Tapaculo is a relatively recently described species, a small and highly secretive bird inhabiting the undergrowth of montane forests. Its cryptic plumage helps it remain unnoticed.
Where to spot
Found in humid montane forests on the eastern slopes of the Andes, primarily in northern Peru.
How to spot
Like most tapaculos, its distinctive vocalizations are key for identification. Patiently watch the lowest parts of dense forest undergrowth, especially where vegetation is thick and tangled, for brief movements.
When to spot
Active year-round, with vocalizations most common during the early morning and late afternoon.
