Spotted
A critically endangered and extremely rare tapaculo, sharing the distinctive 'bristlefront' feature with its relative. It is one of the most threatened birds in the world.
Where to spot
Endemic to a few highly fragmented patches of humid lowland and montane Atlantic Forest in eastern Brazil, specifically in Bahia and Minas Gerais states.
How to spot
Due to its extreme rarity, observation is exceptionally challenging. It requires dedicated conservation efforts and often a local guide who knows its highly restricted and declining habitat. Listen for its unique vocalizations.
When to spot
Most active and vocal during early morning and late afternoon. Can be observed year-round in its specific forest habitat.
Named after Erwin Stresemann, a prominent German ornithologist. This species is often considered one of the rarest birds globally, with very few individuals known to exist.
