The Nicobar Megapode is a medium-sized, dark-plumaged bird endemic to the Nicobar Islands of India. It is well-known for constructing impressively large incubation mounds.
Where to spot
Confined to the Nicobar Islands, an archipelago in the eastern Indian Ocean, part of India.
How to spot
Focus on coastal and lowland forests. Look for their distinctive large mounds on the forest floor. Patience is key, as they are shy and well-camouflaged.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active at dawn and dusk, when they are often seen attending to their mounds or foraging.
