Spotted
A small, distinctive warbler with a short tail, notable for its bright yellow underparts, contrasting with olive-green upperparts. It has a short, straight bill.
Where to spot
Moist lowland evergreen forests, forest edges, and dense secondary growth in West and Central Africa, from Sierra Leone to Uganda.
How to spot
Look for its bright yellow belly as it moves quickly through the foliage, often high in the canopy. Listen for its high-pitched, rapid, often chattering calls, which are a good aid to detection.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the day. Breeding periods coincide with local wet seasons, when birds are more vocal.
The vibrant lemon-yellow belly of this crombec is a striking feature, particularly visible when it pauses from its active foraging amongst the leaves.
