Spotted
The Hooded Crow is a striking corvid, easily recognized by its contrasting grey body and black head, throat, wings, and tail. It is a highly adaptable and intelligent bird, often found in a variety of open and semi-open habitats. This species is often seen individually or in pairs.
Where to spot
Found across Northern and Eastern Europe, and parts of the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa. They inhabit open country, coastlines, farmland, urban areas, and mountainous regions.
How to spot
Its distinctive bicolour plumage (grey body with black extremities) is its most obvious identification feature. Its call is a harsh 'kraa-kraa,' similar to the Carrion Crow. Look for it foraging in fields, along roadsides, or perched on prominent structures.
When to spot
Present year-round in most of its range, though some northern populations may undertake migratory movements. Active during daylight hours, often foraging on the ground.

In areas where their ranges overlap, Hooded Crows frequently hybridize with Carrion Crows, creating populations with mixed plumage characteristics, showcasing an interesting evolutionary dynamic.
