Where to spot
Found in arid mountains, rocky cliffs, and wadis across North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, the Middle East, and parts of East Africa.
How to spot
Identify it by its compact appearance, all-black plumage, and strikingly short, wedge-shaped or fan-shaped tail in flight. Its calls are typically a harsh, nasal 'kraaah' or a deeper croak.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day, often seen soaring high or perched on cliff faces. Best observed when gliding along thermals in mountainous terrain.
