Spotted
The Fish Crow is a medium-sized, entirely black corvid found along the coastal and major river systems of eastern and southeastern North America. It is closely related to the American Crow but distinguished primarily by its vocalizations.
Where to spot
Found along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of eastern and southeastern North America, and up major river valleys, inhabiting coastal areas, estuaries, riversides, and increasingly urban environments near water.
How to spot
Visually very similar to the American Crow, so rely on its distinctive, short, nasal 'unh-unh' or 'cah-cah' calls, which sound as if it has a sore throat. Look for it near water bodies.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day, often seen foraging at low tide. Large communal roosts can be observed at dawn and dusk.

As its name suggests, Fish Crows are adept at foraging along shorelines, consuming fish, crustaceans, and other aquatic invertebrates, sometimes even dropping shellfish from the air to break them open.
