Hartlaub's Turaco is an elegant and localized turaco species, characterized by its glossy dark blue-green plumage, a short, rounded crest, distinctive white facial markings, and a striking red bill. It's often found at higher altitudes.
Where to spot
Endemic to the highlands of East Africa, primarily found in Kenya and northern Tanzania. Inhabits montane forests, forest edges, and even large, well-wooded suburban gardens.
How to spot
Listen for their distinctive, rather mournful 'koh-koh-koh' calls. Look for their dark plumage contrasting with the prominent white eye-patch and the bright red bill. They can be found moving deliberately through dense tree canopies.

Present year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon when feeding on fruits and insects.
