The White-cheeked Turaco is a beautiful turaco characterized by its vibrant green plumage, a prominent white patch on its cheek, and a bright red bill. It is endemic to the Horn of Africa.
Where to spot
Inhabits evergreen montane forests, woodlands, and riverine thickets in Eritrea, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive white cheek and red bill in the forest canopy. Its loud, cackling or hooting calls are a strong indicator of its presence, often given by pairs or small groups.
When to spot
Can be found year-round. It is often most active and vocal during the early mornings, especially around dawn.
