Lowland humid rainforests in the Guianas (Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana) and adjacent parts of northern Brazil.

Look in the mid-story of primary rainforest, often near forest clearings or canopy gaps. The male's brilliant red color is unmistakable. Listen for their distinctive, buzzy calls.
