A beautiful cotinga species found in the humid montane forests of the western Andes. Males are notable for their black 'mask' around the eyes and a vibrant yellow-orange breast.
Where to spot
Humid montane and cloud forests on the western slopes of the Andes in Colombia and Ecuador.
How to spot
Look in the mid-story and canopy, especially where fruits are abundant. The distinct black mask and bright breast are excellent identifiers. Listen for their soft, often repeated, whistled notes.
When to spot
Present year-round. Active during the daytime, with increased feeding activity in the early morning.
