A distinctive cotinga species endemic to the tepui regions of northern South America. Males are striking with a broad rose-pink collar across their dark grey plumage.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests on the slopes of tepuis in southeastern Venezuela and adjacent northern Brazil.
How to spot
Scan the mid-story and canopy of tepui forests. The male's rose-pink collar is unmistakable. Females are duller. Listen for its loud, ringing whistles.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active and vocal during the early morning.
This species is a true tepui specialist, found only on the forested slopes and plateaus of these unique tabletop mountains.
