Spotted
The Forest Fody is an endemic species to Madagascar, generally less colourful than its more widespread relative, the Madagascar Fody. It prefers dense forest habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to eastern Madagascar, found primarily in humid evergreen rainforests from lowlands to mid-altitudes.
How to spot
Search within the dense canopy and understory of humid forests. Its duller plumage means careful observation is needed. Listen for its calls.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round in its forest habitat. Early mornings are typically the most active observation times.

Unlike many fody species that are adaptable to various habitats, the Forest Fody is largely restricted to pristine forest, making it more vulnerable to habitat loss.
