Where to spot
Widespread in grasslands, marshes, and damp areas across Central and East Africa, including DR Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on grass seeds in open, moist grasslands or reedbeds. The fawn breast and barred flanks are good identification features.
When to spot
Year-round. Easily observed in suitable habitats, often in small flocks.
