Listen for its loud, far-carrying calls, which often sound like 'kwa-kwa-kwa-KWEER-kwee-kwee!'. Scan open areas, especially where there's some cover. They are ground-dwellers but can flush suddenly.

Most vocal and visible during the early morning and late afternoon, particularly during the breeding season when males call frequently.
