The Brown-breasted Partridge is a widely distributed partridge species across mainland Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its brownish breast and flanks, with intricate patterns on its back and wings.
Where to spot
Inhabits dense broadleaf evergreen forests, bamboo thickets, and secondary growth in hilly and montane regions across Southeast Asia, from Myanmar to Vietnam.
How to spot
Extremely shy and typically hidden in dense undergrowth. Focus on listening for its distinctive calls, which are often a series of accelerating 'koo-koo' notes. Be patient and scan the forest floor quietly.
When to spot
Most vocal at dawn and dusk. Active year-round, but easier to detect when calling during the breeding season (spring).
