The Crested Partridge, also known as the Rouloul, is an exquisitely colored, small ground-dwelling bird found in Southeast Asia. Males are famous for their vibrant red crest and iridescent green-blue plumage, while females are chestnut-brown.
Where to spot
Found in lowland primary and secondary rainforests, often near streams, across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia (Sumatra, Borneo), southern Thailand, and Myanmar.
How to spot
Often seen foraging in small groups on the forest floor. They are shy; approach quietly and look for movement in the leaf litter. Listen for their soft clucking sounds and distinctive calls, especially at dawn and dusk.

Active during the day, particularly early mornings and late afternoons. Can be observed year-round.
