Spotted
The Cameroon Spurfowl is an elusive and poorly known spurfowl endemic to the montane forests of Cameroon. It is considered a rare and restricted-range species.
Where to spot
Found in montane rainforests, forest edges, and dense undergrowth in the highlands of western Cameroon, particularly Mount Cameroon.
How to spot
Due to its rarity and dense habitat, observing this species is extremely challenging. Listen for its distinctive calls, which may be the best way to detect its presence. Focus on undisturbed forest patches and be prepared for difficult terrain.
When to spot
Observations are rare and opportunistic, but like other spurfowls, they are likely most active during cooler parts of the day, particularly dawn and dusk.
This species is primarily known from limited specimens and vocalizations, making it one of the more mysterious and understudied spurfowls in Africa.
