Spotted
The Blood Pheasant is a strikingly colorful pheasant species, named for the blood-red markings on its plumage. It is a high-altitude resident of the Himalayas.
Where to spot
Inhabits high-altitude coniferous and rhododendron forests across the eastern Himalayas, including parts of China, India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar.
How to spot
Look for them foraging in forest clearings, along trails, or near the snowline. Their vibrant colors can stand out against the muted forest backdrop.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon when foraging. Can be easier to spot when snow pushes them to lower elevations.
